| Music Course Program: The History of Music in Italy |
|
Description The course will give students a historical outline of the history of classical music in Italy from Baroque to Classical. During lessons, students will listen to audio recordings and will explore the historical and aesthetic elements of each genre. Students will analyze the pieces, including their harmony, melody and rhythm to decipher style and technique of each time period. The listening portion of the course helps to develop a greater awareness and appreciation of all Italian music; that has connections to other art forms (literature, painting and architecture in particular). Final project Students will prepare a final paper on one of the subjects/concepts discussed during the course, or a critical analysis of a concert. Midterms and final exams will be at the discretion of the instructor and discussed during the first week of courses. Texts: L.
