Italian, of Romanian origin, George Georgescu, began his studies with Iacob Aron in his native city of Bucharest, later to continue with the great Maestro Serafim Antropov at the “Ciprian Porumbescu” Academy of Music where he graduated with honors. Showing outstanding musical qualities from his early childhood, Georgescu is soon recognized by the public and the critics of this country who, without hesitation, put him on the same level as some of its most famous interpreters such as George Enescu, Valentin Gheorghiu and Stefan Gheorghiu.
He soon begins to collaborate with many of these people: Valentin and Stefan
Gheorghiu (in the “Trio Bucaresti”), Ion Voicu, M.Basarab, M.Brediceanu, A.
Octav-Popa, Erwin Acel, L. Baci, H. Andreescu, P. Staicu, Liana Pasquali,
A.Gutman, V. Cosighian as well as others well known on the Romanian musical
scene. He soon is recording and appearing in many Romanian radio and television
broadcasts. George Georgescu continues his concert activity not only in Romania,
but also with great succes in Spain, France, Czechoslovakia, China, Switzerland
and Italy.
In 1980, for his outstanding reputation, he was included in the important
Lexicon publication “International Youth in achievement” edited by The American
Biographical Institute in collaboration with The International Biographical
Center of Cambridge. In 1981, again for his outstanding reputation, George
Georgescu was invited to fill the position of First Cello soloist for the
Orchestra del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in Florence, Italy. He remains in
that position today working with the orchestra’s principal conductor Zubin
Mehta, also having performed with gues conductors such as: Carlo Maria Giulini,
Carlos Kleiber, Eduardo Mata, Myung-Whun Chung, Semyon Bruno Bartoletti, Georges
Pretre etc. Since his arrival in his new adopted city, Florence, Georgescu’s
name has been tied to many important musical organisations such as: “Musicus
Concentus”, “Solisti del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino”, “Solisti Fiorentini”
or simply as the soloist George Georgescu.
He has performed as a soloist in
other italian cities; Rome, Siena, Bologna, Modena etc. “I have had the possibility
to ascertain that cellist G. Georgescu has exceptional qualities as an instrumentalist
as well as a great musical sensitivity”. Carlo Maria Giulini. “I have found
that George Georgescu possesses the finest qualities as an instrumentalist
along with outstanding musicality”...Carlos Kleiber. “I have had the opportunity
to collaborate with G. Georgescu, an extraordinary cellist and above all,
a splendid musician”...Eduardo Mata “...George Georgescu – an outstanding
