Born in 1972, Vittorio Ceccanti begins studying the cello at the age of five and performes his first "concert" at the age of seven. After studying with such renown musicians as: Yo Yo Ma, Mischa Maisky and David Geringas, he graduates with honours from the Hochschule für Musik in Stuttgart under the guidance of Natalia Gutman.

Winner of several international prizes, a fter having performed in Vienna with the Radio Symphony Orchestra (ORF) conducted by Pinchas Steinberg in 1990, and in Naples at the Teatro San Carlo with Pier Luigi Urbini in 1991, Vittorio is called to perform for the occasion of the Gala Concert of the winners of the Eurovision Competitions, which was televised by the RAI TV. Since then, he has been regularly invited to perform as a solo artist in many concerts and festivals in Italy and Europe.

He plays duo with the pianist Bruno Canino and is the cellist and founding member of the Trio Artes and the Contempoartensemble (of which he is now the president). He has recorded 5 CDs with the music of Berio, Boulez, Sciarrino, Steve Reich, Schoenberg e Vacchi, among which he executed the cello solo of "Les mots sont allés." by L. Berio, and the stringtrio op. 45 by Schoenberg, and played first ever executions by F. Vacchi (for pianotrio), by Peter Maxwell Davies (a piece for stringtrio and "Linguae Ignis" for cello and 14 instruments) and by L. Berio ("Chanson" for Pierre Boulez-cello solo).

Vittorio also recorded the music of F. Vacchi for BMG-Records, amongst which is the piece "In alba mia dir." - for cello solo, for the soundtrack of the movie "Il mestiere delle armi" directed by Ermanno Olmi.

For two years he occupied the position of principal cellist with the RAI-National Symphony Orchestra in Turin.

Since 1996 Vittorio has been teaching at the G. Verdi Music School in Prato, at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena and at the Accademia Musicale in Florence.

Recently he has had a vast success with the Trio Artes during their long tour in Latin America (Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay).

Vittorio plays a cello constructed in Venice in 1720 by Carlo Tononi, which once belonged to Amedeo Baldovino.

PARTICIPATION
The course is open to students of the violoncello. Participants can be of any nationality and age.
In the framework of this course the student will select and execute pieces from the repertory for violoncello including concert pieces for violoncello and piano and violoncello and orchestra. A pianist will be available for accompaniment.
